Northern Green Frog

“Glunk glunk” Lovers

Take a walk down to Lake Jonah once the sun has set and your ears will be graced with the mating call of the Northern Green Frog. Nicknamed the “Banjo Frog” due to their song sounding like a pluck of a banjo string (I think their call is more attuned to the groan you make when you hit a wall and get the wind knocked out of you), these bright green amphibians love the muddy waters of CK.

Bull Frog or Green Frog?

Northern Green Frogs are often mistaken for American Bull Frogs due to the fact they are similar in patterning and color. Bullfrogs are the larger of the two, but without comparison it’s often difficult to tell the two apart. When identifying Northern Green Frogs listen for their distinct mating call or look for the distinct ridge that runs from their eye all the one down their back. Bullfrogs possess this ridge, but it only runs down to the corner of their eye around their ear plate!
