Spot of Orange in the Trees

Baltimore Oriole

Easy to Hear, Hard to Spot

Baltimore Orioles are notoriously loud birds during mating season, singing nonstop and fighting other males for claim over a specific tree or mate. However, due to spending most of their time high up in the canopy of trees, they are quite difficult to spot despite their gorgeous colors! There are a few ways to coax them closer to your back window…

Jam Lover

Baltimore Orioles diets consist of insects and lots and lots of fruit. To find a Baltimore Oriole, walk near the flowering trees in the Japanese Gardens or Cranbrook House and Gardens and you'll find them snacking on nectar and small ripe berries. To encourage them to feed in your backyard, slice an orange or get some jam and stick it on your feeder!
