Picasso’s Turtle

Ever see small, colorful turtles sunning themselves at the Bog Gardens on campus? You’ve encountered a painted turtle! Identifiable by the yellow and red bands on their face, legs, and neck, painted turtles are common pets due to their good temper. You’ll spot them sunning out on warm rocks in the early morning as the sun rises, chilling with their legs splayed.

Michigan's State Reptile

Painted turtles are Michigan's state reptile due to the fact that they are one of the most common turtles found in our lakes and ponds!
